How do Support Groups work?

TXGRG Support Groups are free to join and a great place to connect with other grandparents who are raising their grandchildren. We also take time to discuss relevant topics to those on a grandparenting journey. Each Support Group is facilitated by a knowledgeable member of the Texas Grandparents Raising Grandchildren team!

Benefits of Joining a TXGRG Support Group:
When Grandparents Raising their Grandchildren (GRG) share their personal experiences in a safe setting, they gain hope and develop supportive relationships. The experience encourages empathy, productive discussion and a sense of community. It reinforces resiliency.

Support Group participation helps GRG to:
Know they are not alone.
Share their personal stories, frustrations, fears and joys.
Develop better coping skills.
Find their self-empowering voice.
Cultivate strength by sharing their life experiences.
Embrace humor to promote positive mental health.
Accept that some problems cannot be solved.

Some benefits gained through support group participation, as identified by GRG, are that they learn to:
Better understand how to find resources.
Appreciate the opportunity to have adult conversations with other GRG, without the presence of their grandchildren.
Share practical information/advice with other GRG.
Enjoy learning together.
Promote resilience through spirituality.
