Mission and Vision

Our Mission
Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Antonio provides a safe and caring home away from home for the families of children receiving essential medical services in San Antonio, Texas.

Our Core Beliefs
We believe that families are stronger when they are together, and this is never more important than when a child is sick or injured.
When a family is focused on the health of their child, nothing else should matter—not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night.

Our Yearly Impact
4,600 critically and chronically ill children and their family members from 35 states and 6 counties.
$2.1 million saved for families in lodging expenses.
14,500 Overnight Stays for families.
Home cooked meals: 10,000+ meals to our families.
Private bedrooms: 58 bedrooms for our families to stay.

The third Ronald McDonald House in San Antonio occupies the fourth floor of the Children's Hospital of San Antonio (CHOSA), making history as the first Ronald McDonald House in the world to operate within a hospital. The House is located just steps from the Labor and Delivery Wing and one floor from the NeoNatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). In 2016, six rooms were added, bringing the total number of rooms at the CHOSA location to 16.
When a parent is focused on their child’s health, nothing else should matter—not where they can afford to stay, where they will get their next meal or where they will lay their head at night. The proximity of our CHOSA House provides families with the comfort and ease to support their child through times of uncertainty. Parents are able to cook a warm meal, grab a quick shower, or check on their laundry while never leaving the hospital.

OUR SUPPORTERS AND OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH McDONALD'S:
RMHC Founding Mission Partner since 1974
McDonald’s plays a key role in supporting our Ronald McDonald House Charities chapter, as well as many others all around the world. However, by design, McDonald’s does not fully subsidize our RMHC chapter, or any other chapter.
Each Ronald McDonald House chapter is an independent 501(c)(3) public charity supported by its community and governed by a local Board of Directors. Global Ronald McDonald House Charities provides each local Chapter with an initial seed grant, and McDonald’s Corporation licenses the Chapters to use the Ronald McDonald name.
Approximately 20% of our annual operating costs for our House are graciously funded by our local McDonald’s owner/operators through donation boxes, rounding up your purchase, in-restaurant promotions, and store fundraisers. Local McDonald franchise owners also support our chapter by serving on our Board of Directors along with other community leaders and advocates.
The remaining 80% of our operating income comes from the generosity of individual and corporate donors in our community.
