Mission and Vision
Golfers Fore Others has been operating for more than 20 years, providing free home repair and renovations for low-income homeowners. Over the years, Golfers Fore Others has completed over 900 projects in the Boerne community and in 2017, AARP Texas recognized Golfers Fore Others with the Andrus Award, their highest honor for a volunteer organization.
Description
Golfers Fore Others (GFO) is a group of Christian volunteers who do free home repair for low-income residents in and around the Boerne community. GFO has been in existence since 2001 and has completed over 900 projects. Most of the project work occurs on Mondays.
GFO consists of about 20 volunteers with a variety of talents. They started out repairing faucets, replacing toilets, fixing rotted house trim, etc. They now are equipped for larger jobs requiring enhanced skills, such as repairing floors, installing vinyl plank flooring, replacing siding, removing tubs and installing walk in showers, and building small porches with sturdy steps and handrails.
Another positive impact to the community is GFO’s partnership with The Texas Ramp Project (TRP), a 501(c)(3) out of Richardson, Texas. TRP underwrites the cost of the ramp materials and GFO designs and constructs an ADA compliant wooden ramp at no cost to the client.
Requests for assistance from GFO may be made through any of the charitable agencies in Boerne (for example, Hill Country Family Services, Hill Country Daily Bread), First United Methodist Church of Boerne, or The Center (Kronkosky Place). Requests for ramps may only be made by third party heath care agencies, social workers, the Veterans Administration, etc., at “texasramps.org”.
