Mission and Vision

Our mission at The Dirt Therapy Project is to help Veterans manage stressors in life due to PTSD, Military Transitions, school, work or other life events. We aim to facilitate this through an introduction to Mountain Biking, fresh air, camaraderie and good ol’ fashioned PT.

Texas-based outdoor program promoting stress management through mountain biking.

Description

A Veteran-founded 501(c)(3) designed to help fellow service members past and present manage all kinds of stressors through an introduction to Mountain Biking and recreational therapy. Our mission is to get the Military community on bikes, and in the great outdoors where they can discover their own path to healing, through a Texas-based outdoor program that promotes stress management through mountain biking.

RIDE WITH US! – Intro to Mountain Biking – REACH OUT FOR A RIDE!
Are you new to Mountain Biking? Want to find a support system of Veterans? Looking to get outside and challenge yourself? Then you are in the right place. The Dirt Therapy Project has developed a training program to take you from training wheels to trail riding in a few sessions. Led by Jonathan, you will be introduced through a series of rides to the fundamentals of Mountain Biking. We will cover the basics about how to safely navigate the trails, and provide you with all the equipment and instruction necessary at no cost.

OUR BIKES – Through partnering with Specialized bikes, and our very own local shop, Bicycle Heaven, we are able to offer premium bikes for our veterans to ride. We are excited to be welcoming 2020 with the purchase of 3 Stump Jumper ST’s for our veterans to ride! This gallery highlights some of our other rides, past and present!

How The Dirt Therapy Project got started – Jonathan grew up in Utah and spent the majority of his high school years on two wheels. After high school he went nearly a decade without being on a bike. In 2016 Jonathan bought an old Kona on craigslist and the rest is history. In forming TDTP, Jonathan wanted to share his love of biking with other Veterans and hopefully introduce them to a hobby that helps them manage stressors in their life as much as it has helped him.

WHO WE ARE:
– Jonathan Hagerman, founder, is a combat veteran that had the pleasure of serving in the United States Marine Corps (2009-2013). Jonathan has a lovely wife – Alexandria – who is the co-founder, biggest supporter, and the brains behind The Dirt Therapy Project. Together, they are proud to be able to serve Veterans with The Dirt Therapy Project.
– Joe Sulak leads the Advisory Board as a life-long mountain biker, exercise physiologist and mountain bike coach, with over 30 years of dirt-riding experience and a huge passion for sharing the stoke. He loves teaching and helping others get better on the bike so they can in turn have more fun on the trails.

We are located in San Antonio, TX. Shoot us an email but please give us 24 hours to respond -- we may be riding bikes.
