TO REPORT ABUSE CALL 1-800-252-5400 (Statewide Intake)

HOURS: Hotline is available 24 hours per day, 7 days a week.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION: Investigates reports of abuse, neglect, or exploitation of adults who are elderly or have disabilities. A person must be 65 years old or older, or be 18-65 and have disabilities,
and reside in the community. A disabled person is a person with a physical, mental, or
developmental disability that substantially impairs the person's ability to provide
adequately for the person's care or protection. Protective Services are the services
furnished by the department or by a protective services agency to an elderly or disabled
person who has been determined to be in a state of abuse, exploitation, or neglect. These
services may include social casework, case management, and arranging for psychiatric and
health evaluation, home care, day care, social services, health care, and other services
consistent with the Human Resources Code, Chapter 48.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE FOR CLIENT: Call 1-800-252-5400 Statewide Intake or if the situation does not require an emergency response it can be reported online at the secure website
https://www.txabusehotline.org. An emergency is a situation where the person appears to
face an immediate risk of abuse or neglect that could result in death or serious harm.
