Mission and Vision
We provide local special athletes a safe and supportive environment to enhance their physical and social skills through sports and community awareness.
Boerne Blaze (BOE20) represents the local delegation of Boerne for Special Olympics Texas - San Antonio area (Area 20).
Boerne Special Olympics (BSO) has been in existence for many years. It is the local chapter of Special Olympics Texas. BSO falls into Area 20 (San Antonio). BSO is an active group of athletes with intellectual challenges. Presently, there are more than 50 athletes involved with BSO. We accept athletes beginning at age six. All athletes must have a release on file. We extend an invitation to any person who has a special learning need from age 6 to 99! Our program is focused on providing instruction to improve fitness, physical skill, understanding of the sport, sportsmanship, making friendships and having fun!"
BSO is a community-based organization, not school-based. Therefore, we welcome athletes from other areas and athletes who do not attend Boerne ISD. All practices are in the afternoon (after school).
Several Sports Offered – Aquatics, Bowling, Indoor Triathlon, Basketball, and Cycling. We have also done golf, soccer, and track. We welcome all levels of abilities.
Our Goals: Have fun! • Get better • Learn good sportsmanship • Learn sports skills and rules • Form friendships – We start with every athlete wherever he/she is and just work forward.
Volunteer-Run, Community-Based: BSO is run by an amazing group of volunteers. All coaches and volunteers are donating their time and efforts. We have head coaches in each sport who are certified by Special Olympics Texas. We are also supported by volunteers, many from local high schools. BSO has links to other community opportunities and events and helps connect athletes and families together.
Come join our family... as an athlete, a family, a volunteer, a coach, or a donor! We appreciate all of you helping to expand the opportunities and the possibilities for individuals with special needs!
