PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
• Disaster Relief
– After the emergency phase of a response has been completed, the Red Cross turns to helping people recover and addressing lingering community needs.
– Working together with community leaders, government and relief agencies, the Red Cross organizes and executes recovery strategies that include:
Providing emergency financial assistance in the immediate aftermath of a disaster;
Distributing financial assistance for households that need extra help in the long-term;
Providing grants for community-based recovery services.

• Service to Armed Forces
– The Red Cross helps members of the military, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to, the challenges of military service.
– The Red Cross volunteers provide home comforts and critical services on bases and in military hospitals around the world; Support military families during deployments and emergencies, continuing to serve our nation’s veterans after their service ends.
– Every day, the American Red Cross provides 24/7 global emergency communication services and support in military and veteran health care facilities across the country and around the world.

Since its founding in 1881 by visionary leader Clara Barton, the American Red Cross has been the nation's premier emergency response organization. We bring shelter, food and comfort to those affected by disasters, large and small. We collect lifesaving donated blood and supply it to patients in need. We provide support to our men and women in military bases around the world, and to the families they leave behind. We train communities in CPR, first aid and other skills that save lives. And we assist our neighbors abroad with critical disaster response, preparedness and disease prevention efforts. We are able to do all this by mobilizing the power of volunteers and the generosity of donors.
